Mohamed Salah 'mega money' update: Liverpool star must leave after 'mistake'
Liverpool must let Mohamed Salah go because they will have to offer him "mega mega money", according Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
The Egyptian star is now free to negotiate potential moves with other clubs ahead of the summer, as his contract has less than six months remaining.
Salah has publicly acknowledged that negotiations with the Liverpool hierarchy remain at an impasse, sparking concern and frustration among fans.
Despite his outstanding season, former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has suggested that Liverpool should let Salah leave for financial reasons. Speaking on talkSPORT's YouTube channel, Hasselbaink said: "If I'm the owner, the businessman of Liverpool, I'll let Salah go because of his age.
"Because what do you have to pay him? You will have to pay him mega mega money…
“First of all, I'd never have let him get to this position… so it's Liverpool's mistake."
He added: "Second of all, he's going to be 33. He wants a three-year contract. You can't give a 33-year-old a three-year deal. Even if I love him, that amount of money business-wise is not right”.
Host Jim White then asked, "So the best business for Liverpool is to see Salah go?" to which Hasselbaink responded: "Yeah”.
Liverpool losing Mohamed Salah would be disastrous
Football Insider opinion
Despite being the oldest of the trio that includes Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah remains Liverpool's main man.
While Hasselbaink points to the winger’s age, it's crucial to acknowledge his remarkable consistency.
Season after season, he delivers, and this year could be one for the record books.
All three players are free to discuss potential moves away, but the Reds remain confident in re-signing both Salah and Van Dijk.
That leaves Alexander-Arnold who could be leaving for Real Madrid in January if they come in which a suitable bid.
Meanwhile, Salah continues to shine, contributing to 21 goals and 17 assists in just 27 games across all competitions.
Arne Slot will certainly be frustrated that contract negotiations are overshadowing his impressive start at Anfield.
Whether or not the Reds lift the Premier League title this season, Salah is indispensable. He's the talisman, the goal scorer, and the driving force behind the team. Losing him could unravel Slot's progress faster than anyone expects.
