Moises Caicedo has reacted to an announcement from Chelsea on social media regarding defender Marc Cucurella.

In spite of the up-and-down nature of Chelsea’s season that has seen their once-potential title race with Liverpool fade away, Cucurella has been a consistent performer for the under pressure Enzo Maresca.

Since joining the Blues from Brighton for £60million [BBC Sport] in 2022, the Spaniard has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and this season, the former Barcelona man has added goals to his game, notching a career-best five in all competitions.

Marc Cucurella nominated for Premier League award

Following his match-winning goal against Leicester, Cucurella has been nominated for the goal of the month award for March.

The left-back picked up the ball near the Foxes box and drove forward, before rifling a low shot past Mads Hermansen.

Cucurella’s strike against the relegation-bound Midlands side was his second in consecutive games, having also scored against Southampton.

Following his nomination, Chelsea posted a graphic celebrating the Spaniard’s achievement on Instagram, captioned: “Marc's goal against Leicester City has been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for March.”

The post was then liked by Caicedo, showing his support for Cucurella.

Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo begin to justify Chelsea outlay

Football Insider Verdict

Having signed Cucurella in the summer of 2022, Chelsea then followed up that deal the next year with a British record outlay of £115million [Sky Sports] for Caicedo.

Following the moves, both players initially struggled to justify the outrageous sums of cash the Blues had spent on them.

However, having now had time to settle, both players are beginning to justify the outlay.

Cucurella is difficult to miss on a football pitch, not just for his unique curly locks, but also for the way he buzzes around, flying into tackles and sprints upfield to support his more offensive teammates.

Caicedo on the other hand, is thriving without so much attention being placed on him. The Ecuadorian has quietly made himself an indispensable part of Maresca’s system, joining his Spanish teammate as one of the first names on the Blues’ team-sheet.
