Mudryk latest ups risk: 'Door now open for Chelsea to sack banned star'

Mykhailo Mudryk finds his future at Chelsea very much up in the air after his provisional suspension for the presence of a banned substance in a drugs test, with the latest putting him at even greater risk.
It emerged on Tuesday morning that the winger returned an adverse finding in a routine urine sample earlier this year.
He is therefore now potentially facing a long ban with the substance, Meldonium, having previously led to a two-year ban for tennis star Maria Sharapova after being discovered in one of her tests (Daily Mail).
Chelsea fans have already been left to speculate about what that might mean for Mudryk’s future at Stamford Bridge.
Now, further updates may mean that the club likely have all the more scope to part company with the winger, if they wish to do so.
Chelsea have decision to make over Mykhailo Mudryk future
It is now thought that Mudryk was not in the UK or representing the club at the time when took the substance that has led to this positive test and subsequent ban (Sky Sports).
That is likely to be hugely frustrating for Chelsea, since it means that a situation that was out of their hands could be about to cost them a player they invested a huge amount in for a long period.
Beyond that it might perhaps also mean that because he was not in a position where the club were responsible as he was not on their watch, they have been hadnded grounds to part company should they choose to.
It should be noted that in his own statement acknowledging the situation, Mudryk insisted he has “never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules”.
Indeed, the Chelsea man is apparently confident that he will be proven innocent, while the club themselves are said to be supporting him amid the situation currently.
There is of course, also a B-sample to be analysed that could potentially return differing evidence that helps to put the 23-year-old in the clear.
Even so, some may feel that the fact events leading up to him potentially taking Meldonium were out of the control of Chelsea, will give them greater scope when it comes to their options in how to deal with.
That in turn, could potentially raise more questions about Mudryk’s future at Stamford Bridge further down the line.
His time at the club has not panned out as hoped since arriving as a big-money signing from Shakhtar Donetsk so the latest won’t have done anything to strengthen his hopes of eventually coming good on the move.
Chelsea infamously sacked Romanian striker Adrian Mutu two decades ago before pursuing legal action against him over a drugs test, and while this is a different situation under a new regime Mudryk will have to hope there is to be no repeat.
In other news, Cole Palmer and Marc Cucurella have reacted to Jadon Sancho’s latest social media message.
