Newcastle are riding high on their League Cup final win and will be putting plans in place for the summer transfer window.

The Magpies have spent meagrely in recent windows with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) restricting their moves in the market.

Eddie Howe’s transfer plans could be bolstered by potential qualification for the Champions League – with at least five English sides set to participate next season.

Newcastle sit sixth in the table and are just a point behind Man City with a game in hand on Pep Guardiola’s side.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted he expects the Tyneside giants to sign up to six players this summer.

Newcastle have been unable to spend despite their mega-money Saudi backing.

Longstaff, Wilson and Trippier to leave Newcastle, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness also claimed he expects Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier to depart St James’ Park.

Longstaff and Wilson have featured sparingly for Howe’s side in the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness also backed Newcastle to keep Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes on long-term contracts – if “the financial terms are right”.

He told Football Insider's Inside Track podcast: “Too much change can be a bad thing for a club like Newcastle.

"Newcastle will be looking at bringing between four and six players in this summer, I believe.

"Then you're looking at letting go of players like Longstaff, Wilson, Trippier, etc.

"Those are the players that may go.

"I'm not overly concerned about the biggest Newcastle players leaving.

"I think provided the financial terms are right for Isak and Guimaraes, they will stay – and they'd be great assets for Newcastle."

Newcastle failed to land Guehi last summer (2024).

Liverpool in pole position to sign Newcastle's top target

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 March) that Liverpool are in pole position to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi – who is a top target for Newcastle.

The 24-year-old will have just 12 months left to run on his Palace contract in June.

This summer will be the last chance to cash in for Oliver Glasner's side – with Guehi left to weigh up where his future will be.
