The January transfer window is open, and Newcastle have some work to do.

Newcastle are on the verge of doing something special this season. The Magpies are on a great run of form, and they're knocking on the door of the top four.

However, Newcastle's squad is far from being complete.

Eddie Howe still needs a new centre-back and a new winger, and that's what Newcastle wanted in the summer.

Newcastle chased Marc Guehi in the summer, while Anthony Elanga was also a Newcastle target.

Now, Newcastle are looking in the same positions, The Magpies wanted Abdukodir Khusanov before he closed in on a move to Manchester City, while Bryan Mbeumo is a Newcastle target on the wing.

Speaking on The United Stand, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on Mbeumo, claiming that Newcastle have made a concrete approach for the attacker.

Newcastle have made concrete Bryan Mbeumo approach

According to Jacobs, Newcastle are the only team to have made a concrete approach for Bryan Mbeumo so far.

The journalist says that the Magpies are looking into a summer move for the Brentford ace.

Alan Shearer recently called Bryan Mbeumo 'outstanding' via the Premier League.

"Brentford don't want to sell, that is the first thing. Newcastle are the only team who have made any sort of concrete approach, no bid for January, but they're looking at Mbeumo for over the summer," Jacobs said.

"What we can say was that when Ashworth was at Newcastle he was looking at Mbeumo, so it's logical to say that when Ashworth was still at the football club he put Mbeumo into the mix."

Newcastle could land Mbeumo in the summer, and that is a very exciting potential transfer to say the least.

Indeed, Mbeumo has been one of the most in-form attackers in the Premier League this season, and his goalscoring record even gives Alexander Isak a run for his money.

Mbeumo is also wanted by Arsenal, and it's fair to say that the north London club could do with a player of this calibre as well.

Arsenal are short on attacking options right now with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus both out of action due to injury, and a player like Mbeumo could help the Gunners solve a number of their current attacking problems.

Arsenal have struggled in front of goal in each of their last two games against Manchester United and Newcastle, and Mbeumo could help Mikel Arteta's side on that front.

However, at the moment, Newcastle are the team seemingly leading the race for Mbeumo.
