'Newcastle key to new Alexander Isak deal emerges after transfer intervention'

Newcastle United may have to do one vital thing this season if they are to secure a new contract for Alexander Isak, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The striker has enjoyed an excellent campaign with the Magpies, prompting Isak to be heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.
It is also understood that Liverpool could offer Darwin Nunez to Newcastle as part of a swap deal with Isak heading in the opposite direction.
However, Isak again proved his worth to his current club on Sunday (16 March), scoring what proved to be the winning goal in the League Cup final to end the club’s long wait for silverware.
That has now led to a fresh update on the striker’s situation, while seemingly setting out the club’s next priority for the remainder of the campaign.
Alexander Isak future update emerges
Ahead of the Carabao Cup final, Newcastle were backed to keep Isak if they could win the trophy, something they did of course succeed in, thanks in no small part to the striker himself.
Now, according to the latest update from the Mail, the club’s chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has instructed the Magpies not to sell Isak under any circumstances this summer, in the face of mounting interest from Barcelona whose scouts recently watched him in action.
The Catalan giants are looking at the Swede as a potential marquee addition for their first season back in a revamped Camp Nou.

Back at St. James’ though it is noted that if Newcastle want to get Isak to sign a new contract then a return to the Champions League this season could be the “key” to affording his salary and matching his ambitions.
As things stand, there are still three years remaining on Isak’s current deal which secures his future at St James’ Park until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Eddie Howe‘s side currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, two points behind fourth place Chelsea, with a game in hand.
Newcastle United should be confident about Champions League football
Football Insider Verdict
It makes sense that Champions League qualification will be key in Isak signing a new contract with Newcastle.
The striker is one of the best in the world right now, so he is going to want to be at the top level from a football and financial perspective.
Qualifying for the Champions League, and the revenue that brings, should allow the Magpies to give him the chance to do that in both respects.
It looks likely that fifth place in the Premier League will be enough to qualify for European football’s top competition next season.
So with a favourable looking fixture list, plus the confidence and momentum they should take from that Carabao Cup final win, Newcastle will feel they have every chance of succeeding with that.
It seems clear that doing that will also be a major help for them when it comes to securing the futures of key players such as Isak.
So every incentive is there for them to deliver a strong end to the season, even with that long-awaited trophy now in the bag.
