'Newcastle ready summer signing spree as £100m payout edges closer'

Newcastle United are currently on course for a return to the Champions League following their strong run of form.
Eddie Howe's side have surged up the Premier League table in recent weeks, leapfrogging Nottingham Forest into third spot.
The Tyneside club have now claimed five league victories on the bounce following their 5-0 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday (16 April).
They have also moved five points clear of sixth-place Chelsea heading into the final six games of the campaign, with five Champions League spots on offer to top-flight clubs this season.
Newcastle have already secured a place in the Conference League play-offs following their Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool, but their focus is purely on Champions League qualification.
The north-east giants featured in the competition last season before being knocked out in the group stage.
Newcastle could keep star players after stunning twist
Champions League qualification would provide Newcastle with a financial boost as they look to challenge at the top of the Premier League table.
They have struggled to comply with the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) since Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) secured its £305million takeover in October 2021, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Newcastle avoided a PSR breach last season after selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Forest and Brighton ahead of the 30 June accounting deadline.
However, Champions League qualification this season should improve their PSR position.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football InsiderNewcastle could generate up to £100million in prize money if they qualify for the competition.
The Tynesiders have been relatively reserved in the transfer market this season despite their success, having only added Lewis Hall, Odysseas Vlachodimos, William Osula, Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy to their side for just over £50million.
Howe will be well aware he needs some more strength in depth if they are to qualify for the Champions League, with increased spending likely to be on the cards this summer.
The improved prize money on offer following the revamp to the Champions League should provide St James' Park chiefs with the comfort to go out and spend more money without worrying about their PSR position.
It's also likely to help them keep hold of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon following interest in the star trio.

Newcastle ready move to sign James Trafford
Newcastle are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer despite Nick Pope's form since returning from injury.
Football Insider revealed on 10 April James Trafford is a top target for Newcastle as they believe he's capable of being the long-term number one at St James' Park.
The 22-year-old has only conceded 13 goals in 41 appearances for Burnley this season, having kept 28 clean sheets across the campaign.
