Juventus held talks with Newcastle United for Lloyd Kelly earlier this week.

The Italian club’s sporting director Cristiano Guintoli spoke to the Magpies on Monday, attempting to take the defender on an initial loan deal. There was a suggestion that Newcastle United’s stance about that attempt is yet to be finalised.

TuttoSport today report on the situation. They state that while Guintoli was in Bruges for Juve’s Champions League game against Club Brugge, that doesn’t mean he’s paused his efforts for Kelly.

The 'assault' on the player will resume today, with the report indicating that further talks with Newcastle United will be held.

For now, Eddie Howe’s side have not opened up to the possibility of an initial loan deal. They only want a permanent sale, amidst previous talk of Juve looking to add an obligation to buy of €15m.

The 26-year-old arrived at St James' Park on a free transfer in the summer window and his exit can hand Newcastle United a very useful capital gain.

However, despite the intense negotiations, neither side is wavering yet.
