Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães has revealed he wants to play for Vasco in future, despite starting his career with Athletico.
O Globo cover comments from the Newcastle United star today, made to EPSN, in which he reveals playing for Vasco would be the fulfilment of his father's dreams.
The 27-year-old is currently enjoying life at St James Park, where he is among the stars of the show under Eddie Howe.
He's been in Europe now for four years after initially joining Olympique Lyon in a €20m deal from Athletico PR, the club where he broke through with in Brazil.
He then joined Newcastle in a €42.1m deal in January 2022, where he is undoubtedly among the best players in the squad and a firm fan favourite.
His performances have not gone unnoticed either with this year seeing him linked to the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.
He's continually insisted he's more than happy with Newcastle and ignoring those rumours but is now willing to admit there is one transfer he intends to make at some point in future.
"I also wanted to fulfil my father’s dream of playing for Vasco," he said.
"My whole family is Basque. I grew up in São Januário, I was always a Vasco fan, but Athletico-PR trained me, so I have eternal gratitude for the club.
"I have a huge gratitude to Athletico, which is a team that I support nowadays too. I think about going back one day, I definitely want to finish my career in Brazil, but I haven’t planned a date or year.
"I have, I don’t know, 10, 12 years ahead of me. Athletico-PR trained me, so I have eternal gratitude for the club. I left there as an idol, so it’s something I think about a lot in the future."
