Nicolas Jackson reacts to Robert Sanchez plea to Chelsea fans after Arsenal loss

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez wants the fans to help change the club’s fortunes after losing to Arsenal.
Sanchez has reclaimed his position as the Blues’ starting goalkeeper, after being dropped for a dreadful performance against Man City in January.
The Spaniard’s replacement, Filip Jorgensen failed to impress Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, and the former Brighton keeper made his second successive Premier League start against the Gunners, having kept a clean sheet against Leicester.
Arsenal opened the scoring in the 20th minute, as makeshift striker Mikel Merino headed home from a Martin Odegaard corner.
Despite a late push for an equaliser, Chelsea struggled without their talismanic midfielder, Cole Palmer, and the game became a scrappy affair, suiting the home side.
Robert Sanchez tells Chelsea fans they can ‘change it together’
Following the loss to their London rivals, Sanchez posted a series of images to his Instagram, captioned: “We need to continue with character and attitude, to fight to win!!
“The result wasn't what we wanted, let's focus ahead and change it together”.
The post was then liked by injured Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, showing support for his teammate.
The result means the Blues remain in fourth place, but precariously so, with just five points separating them from ninth-placed Bournemouth.
Chelsea goalkeeping problems need addressing in the short-term
Football Insider Verdict
Mike Penders, a 19-year-old prospect from Belgium, is set to join the club in the summer, having agreed a transfer deal in August 2024.
Comparisons have been made between Thibaut Courtois and the Genk goalkeeper, given their nationality, height, and talent.
Whilst Penders could be the answer in the long-term, the goalkeeper position is one that desperately needs addressing in the short-term for Chelsea.
2024/25 Premier League stats | Robert Sanchez | Filip Jorgensen |
Appearances | 23 | 6 |
Clean sheets | 5 | 1 |
Penalties saved | 1/5 | 0/1 |
Goals conceded | 28 | 9 |
Errors leading to a goal | 5 | 1 |
Perhaps easier said than done though, as that has been one of the Blues’ objectives since Courtois first left to join Real Madrid.
They can hardly be accused of not trying, or skimping out, having spent a world-record £71.6million on Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018 [Sky Sports].
Since then, the position has been a revolving door or players failing to impress, but if Maresca wants any chance of success in the future, he must be the manager to finally find a solution.
