Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has spoken to the Swedish media after passing up the chance to score a hat-trick last night.

Isak scored a brace during his country's 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan in Baku, but after Sweden were awarded a late penalty the Newcastle United man gave Sporting's Viktor Gyökeres the opportunity to get on the scoresheet.

Göteborgs-Posten have reported on comments Isak made in the mixed zone after the game when he was asked about handing over the penalty to Gyökeres. The 24-year-old said it isn't a big deal and that his teammate also wanted to get amongst the goals.

Despite not scoring a hat-trick for Sweden previously, Isak believes it should still happen in the future and it's something that doesn't concern him.

"He’s also a striker and wants to score goals. It wasn’t a big deal for me. Of course, you want a hat-trick here and I haven't for the national team. It would have been fun, but I’m not worried. It will come,” said the Newcastle United attacker.

Since making his debut in 2017, Isak has now scored 13 goals in 47 games for the national team. He also has three goals in the last three games for Sweden.

After missing out on Euro 2024, Sweden will be happy to get back to winning ways in a competitive game.
