Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has been subject to recent speculation about his long-term future at the City Ground.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a target for Man City following Kevin de Bruyne’s announcement that he would be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract in June.

Football Insider revealed on 11 April that Man City are eyeing Gibbs-White as one of four players who could be signed to replace De Bruyne this summer.

Now, ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told Football Insider that Forest may be forced to cash in on Gibbs-White amid financial concerns.

This comes after Man City’s former financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Forest could face PSR issues if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

As a result, qualification for UEFA’s premier competition is seen as crucial to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side holding on to their best players.

Man City to capitalise on Nottingham Forest financial concerns

Football Insider revealed on 13 April that Forest are reluctant to sell Gibbs-White and plan to hand him a new contract to ensure he remains at the City Ground.

However, their financial situation could chance their stance as there is a belief they may be forced to sell players to raise funds before they can spend this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that City could use Forest’s situation to swoop for Gibbs-White, but it could be a tough deal to do if Forest qualify for the Champions League.

There’s always noise around Forest about FFP and PSR,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s stupid, one of the most sustainable clubs in the Premier League will potentially have to sell players to strengthen the squad in different areas.

“If they do have to sell Morgan Gibbs-White, it could open a real avenue for Manchester City.

“He’d be a great signing for Man City because they’ve got that blend of youth in there now.

“With De Bruyne leaving, a player like Gibbs-White brings that all together, and the work-rate he gives the team is infectious and City sometimes don’t have that.

“I can see him fitting straight in at Man City and the opportunity is there with the PSR at Forest.

“It’s going to be a tough deal to do if Forest get into the Champions League.

“But if they are to strengthen and Nuno wants players in other positions, the opportunity could be there for Man City to sign Gibbs-White.

Nuno Espirito Santo lines up Callum Hudson-Odoi contract talks

Alongside their attempts to pin Gibbs-White down to a new deal at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest have also turned their attentions towards Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 10 April that Forest want to agree terms with Hudson-Odoi and will be proactive in offering their key players new deals.

The 24-year-old will have just 12 months remaining on his deal in June and clubs are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

Meanwhile, industry insider Mick Brown told Football Insider in November that Tottenham are interested in Hudson-Odoi and scouts have been keeping a close eye on his performances.
