Brazilian side Vasco have made an attempt to sign Ramón Sosa from Nottingham Forest but received an initial rejection from the player.

That's according to GE Globo, who report that Vasco were willing to spend to secure the Nottingham Forest winger's signature.

They explain that there was a meeting between Sosa and his representatives on Sunday to discuss a potential move after Vasco made an approach to him.

However, Sosa made it clear that he wanted to remain in England and fight for a place in Nottingham Forest's squad.

Negotiations between Vasco and his representatives have been going on for weeks. Vasco's board treated the 25-year-old as a priority as they want to add a speedy winger to their squad.

Talks with Nottingham Forest were also well underway. They had initially been over a loan with an option to purchase. Vasco showed a willingness to acquire part of Sosa's economic rights also.

There was competition from clubs in South America, but the Paraguayan has put a hold to everything by signalling his desire to remain in Europe and fight for a place at Nottingham Forest.

That should put an end to any transfer negotiations this month, despite his agents and Vasco talking for a while.
