Everton could launch a surprise move for Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior corresponded Pete O’Rourke admitted he’d be “very surprised” to see Quansah make the move across Stanley Park.
Quansah has been heavily linked with an Anfield exit ahead of the summer window, with Man United’s former chief scout Mick Brown telling Football Insiderthat the defender wants to sign for Newcastle.
However, sources have told Football Insider that Everton aren’t likely to spend “big money” this summer if Jarrad Branthwaite stays put, and Liverpool certainly won’t be letting Quansah leave on the cheap.
Football Insider also revealed on 5 April that Quansah’s long contract at Anfield and status as a home-grown player make him an unlikely player for Liverpool to sell, particularly with Trent Alexander-Arnold bound for the exit door.
Everton must break the bank to seal Liverpool transfers
Quansah isn’t the first Liverpool player linked with a move to their arch-rivals this summer, with Football Insider revealing that Everton are also interested in a £30million move for Scotland winger Ben Doak.
However, sources have told Football Insider that while Arne Slot has his doubts over Quansah’s place as a starter for Liverpool, they won’t sell the defender unless they receive an offer “too good to turn down”.
St. James’ Park is seen as a much more likely destination for Quansah this summer, with Stefan Borson exclusively telling Football Insider that Newcastle will have to pay north of £30m in order to sign him.
Jarrad Branthwaite future the priority for Everton
Signing Quansah from their sworn enemies may be a long shot for Everton, but David Moyes will be much more concerned with ensuring his centre-back stocks aren’t depleted by the loss of Branthwaite.
Brown told Football Insider last month that he doesn’t seen Man United returning with another bid for the 22-year-old this summer, but the England defender is still expected to attract top-level interest.
Moyes has identified Burnley’s Maxime Esteve as an ideal defensive signing regardless of whether Branthwaite stays or goes, and despite being one of the first names on the team sheet at Turf Moor, he’s seen as a more gettable asset than the likes of Quansah.
