Leicester striker Odsonne Edouard’s “disaster” loan from Crystal Palace is set to be incredibly costly to end early, according to a new update from The Athletic.

The French striker was signed on loan at the end of August [BBC Sport] in an attempt to add an alternative striker to 38-year-old Jamie Vardy, to the squad.

It is believed that, whilst Leicester may want to cancel his loan, it would be “extremely expensive” for the Foxes to do so, and that is not a viable option financially.

Leicester avoided a points deduction for profit and sustainability rules (PSR), but only through a creative legal loophole, and concerns around future PSR rulings have priced them out of making transfer moves for players like Kyle Walker-Peters.

Leicester desperately need reinforcements in January

Football Insider Verdict

The Frenchman’s half-season in the Midlands has been disastrous for the club, loan spots are vital for newly-promoted sides, allowing them to add Premier League quality to their squad without spending Premier League prices.

Edouard spending almost his entire time side-lined for the Foxes represents terrible business for the Championship champions.

The Frenchman’s lack of impact is representative of Leicester’s issues in the transfer market, with Caleb Okoli and Oliver Skipp also joining the club in the Summer and having minimal impact on the pitch.

Leicester started the season well enough, but made the misguided decision to sack boss Steve Cooper, who had garnered enough points to keep the Foxes out of the relegation zone, for Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Dutchman delivered a win and a draw in his first two matches in charge, however, the Midlands side are now on a losing streak of seven games. They have plummeted down to 19th in the table and look destined for relegation.

The Foxes must make transfers in order to have any chance of remaining in the Premier League, and have been linked to Udinese’s Thomas Kristensen.
