According to a claim in the Turkish media, Fenerbahce are looking to step up their pursuit of Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos.

The Istanbul side have been linked with the Brazilian in the past few days, with Jose Mourinho making it one of his priorities to sign a central defender in this transfer window.

Fotomac report on the latest developments regarding Fenerbahce's interest in the Aston Villa player and they say the Super Lig giants are lining up an offer for the 31-year-old.

It's claimed Fenerbahce want to loan Carlos for the remainder of the season, with an option to purchase the former Sevilla player for €8m in the summer.

Last week we covered reports from Turkey that Fenerbahce had contacted Aston Villa regards to the availability of Carlos. With Jayden Oosterwolde suffering a serious knee injury in November, Mourinho is keen to bring in a replacement this month.

There is no indication in the report if Aston Villa are willing to let Carlos leave in this window, but with Pau Torres sidelined for at least two months with a foot injury it may be harder for the Turkish club to get a deal done.
