'Oliver Glasner to agree new Crystal Palace contract'

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is expected to be rewarded with a new contract following an impressive run of form, Clinton Morrison believes.
After enduring a difficult start to his first full season in the Premier League, with only one win from Palace’s opening 10 Premier League matches, some started to question the 50-year-old’s long-term future at the club.
Glasner‘s only victory in this period came at the ninth time of asking in a 1-0 win at home to Tottenham in late October, putting them just above the relegation zone.
Expectations were huge coming into the season with many tipping Palace to be dark horses for European football at the beginning of the campaign, despite the club losing key winger Michael Olise to Bayern Munich in the summer.
However, the Austrian coach has managed to replicate the form which guided Palace to a top 10 league finish last season in recent weeks, with former striker Clinton Morrison saying that he expects Glasner’s contract situation will be resolved soon, avoiding an exit on top of sporting director Dougie Freedman’s departure.
Glasner to be rewarded with a new contract
Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [12.11pm, 29 March] ahead of the 3-0 FA Cup victory over Fulham to qualify for the semi-final, the former Palace man said: “Dougie Freedman, the job he’s done, the little gems he’s brought in and sold them on for more money.
“Think of people like [Michael] Olise, Marc Guehi, [Eberechi] Eze, [Adam] Wharton, the list goes on and on.
“So they will miss him and it’s going to be big shoes [to fill] for whoever goes in there.
“But I think Glasner, they will get his contract sorted out.
“There was a lot of people panicking at the start of the season when Palace didn’t start well enough, would Glasner come under pressure?
“But he’d done a brilliant job last season and he’s done a really good job this season.”

Football Insider verdict
The impact from Freedman’s departure as sporting director is likely to be huge for Palace, as he has done an excellent job since returning to the club in 2017.
His eye for spotting emerging talents such as Olise, Eze and Wharton during his time in the recruitment role placed Palace in a position to further establish themselves as a top-flight side.
Undoubtedly, Freedman has left Palace in a better position than they were when he took over, with the club having a largely self-sufficient model and many sellable assets.
Despite this, the 50-year-old is edging closer to a position in Saudi Arabia at Al-Diriyah, who play in the Saudi second tier and are owned by the Public Investment Fund, who bought Newcastle United in 2021.
Palace next five fixtures | Home or away |

Brighton | Home |
Manchester City | Away |
Newcastle | Away |
Bournemouth | Home |
The work of Glasner and his coaching team cannot be underestimated, as in a short period of time they have implemented a completely different style to what was previously seen under Roy Hodgson.
This is why it’s all the more important to tie Glasner down to a new contract, in order to bring a sense of stability to the club, and build on the momentum of recent results.
The Eagles start an important run of fixtures with an away trip to Southampton, who need two points between now and the end of the season to avoid becoming the worst Premier League side ever.
Palace then start a difficult run of fixtures against Brighton, Manchester City, Newcastle and Bournemouth in their next four.
Regardless of how these results end up, the view around the club is that Glasner will be rewarded for his efforts with a new contract, with the final decision set to be made at the end of the season.
