Maxwel Cornet joined Genoa on loan from West Ham in the winter transfer window.

His time in Italy had started well, with the Frenchman having scored twice and assisted once in six Serie A games. Things were finally looking up.

Cornet scored for Genoa against Cagliari on Friday before picking up an injury. There is now bad news for West Ham, who would have hoped for the winger to play regularly and further his development.

PrimoCanale have noted that Cornet came out of the game against Cagliari in a 'bad shape' and the report carries an 'ouch' exclamation along with the information.

They report that the West Ham loanee has picked up a thigh flexor injury and will not return to action soon. He will be assessed for fitness over the next few weeks and that will determine when he can return to action.

The early indication is that things are not looking good and there is no exact timeframe over a return.

Considering his form for Genoa, it would come as very disappointing news for Cornet, who had fallen short of game time during his loan at Southampton earlier in the season.

Just when things were going right, they have gone wrong again.
