Jose Mourinho is being linked with a shock return to the Premier League with Everton, however, Paul Merson has warned them about making such an appointment.

TBR Football understands that Everton are not currently considering sacking Sean Dyche, but they are doing their due diligence in terms of eyeing potential replacements.

Mourinho has been linked with a move to Goodison Park having said: “If any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.”

Back in November, TBR Football revealed that Mourinho was looking to return to the Premier League but the Toffees have been warned about being the club to bring him back.

Why Everton should avoid Jose Mourinho

Paul Merson believes Everton should be careful about the possibility of appointing Jose Mourinho given their current state.

The former Premier League player does not feel that Mourinho at Everton when they are battling relegation would be a good fit.

Merson told Sky Sports: “I’m a big fan of Jose Mourinho, an amazing manager over the years and one the greats of all time. I don’t see how this job ticks the box, they’re in a massive, massive relegation fight.”

Merson claims that Mourinho would not be any better than Sean Dyche in a relegation battle so it would surprise him to see the Portugese coach on the Everton touchline.

“I just don’t see how he does any differently to Sean Dyche. So for me, I would be surprised. I would be careful on that one,” the pundit added.

Who else are Everton looking at to replace Sean Dyche?

TBR Football understands that Everton strongly admired Graham Potter but he’s just been appointed by West Ham.

Gareth Southgate is another manager who the Toffees rate highly and who has remained out of work since leaving the England national team.

Sources have also informed TBR Football that David Moyes is ready to return to Everton if the job became available.
