Pep Guardiola has agreed a new one-year contract with Manchester City.

The Spaniard – widely regarded as the finest coach in world football – had entered into the final 12 months of his existing deal and uncertainty had been growing over his long-term future at the Etihad.

City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain departed last month and there was speculation that Guardiola could follow suit at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, with Ruben Amorim reportedly sounded out prior to his appointment at Manchester United.

However, The Athletic report that Guardiola has now reached an agreement to extend his stay in the north west until 2026, with the option of an addition 12 months.

More to follow.
