Man City manager Pep Guardiola was seen to be “furious” after Savinho for what he did against Brentford, according to Lee Hendrie.

The Cityzens were held to a 2-2 draw after a dramatic fightback by a resilient Brentford side, but the Brazilian winger squandered a golden opportunity prior to the first of Phil Foden’s double to the obvious annoyance of his manager.

Savinho had earned Guardiola’s trust to start on the left wing after an outstanding display against West Ham. Fans were optimistic, with some even suggesting his performances could spell the end for Jack Grealish at the Etihad.

However, his decision-making in the 58th minute left much to be desired. With Erling Haaland available for a simple pass, Savinho opted to go for glory but missed the target, visibly frustrating his manager on the touchline.

Former Aston Villa man Hendrie broke down the moment on Sky Sports Soccer Special, stating (8.47pm): “Man City have just gone through. Kevin De Bruyne’s just slipped Savinho through, he’s absolutely bursting with pace.

“He gets forward and he’s tried to shoot from and angle. I mean it’s just gone onto Pep and he’s furious because you’ve got [Josko] Gvardiol queuing up, you’ve got Haaland. All he needs to do is just cut that ball back.

“They’ve got Brentford literally stretched and he takes the shot on himself, hits the side netting, Flekken don’t even move.

“Absolutely frustrating.”

Savinho has been one of the brighter sparks in a dismal City season, but the 2-2 draw against Brentford leaves the team in sixth place in the Premier League table.

But fans are feeling frustrated and venting their anger not only at the Brentford result but also at Guardiola’s decision to bring Ilkay Gundogan on in the 76th minute, moments before City conceded two late goals.

City now sit 12 points off the top of the table, a gap no one could have anticipated at the start of the season.

With the league title almost certainly out of reach, attention will soon shift to the Champions League, where they face Paris Saint-Germain in a crucial European tie. Guardiola's side are currently 22nd in the standings, just a point away from automatic elimination.

In other news, Man City have set their sights on signing in this position in the January transfer window.
