Player opens up failed summer move to Liverpool – Won't stop working for 'dream' transfer

César Huerta is determined to make a switch to Europea, after failing to join Liverpool in the summer window.
The Mexico international has spent his playing career in his country. He’s been at Club Universidad Nacional, also known as Pumas UNAM, since 2022. He had a chance to join Liverpool in the last window.
Last month, the 23-year-old revealed he had his bags packed to arrive at Anfield. ESPN in Mexico claim his move to Liverpool collapsed, ‘a few hours’ after they made an approach.
Huerta has also given an interview to the same outlet, stating that he remains confident of securing a transfer to a European club, after a failed move to Liverpool.
“It didn’t move me at all, I’m very focused and I know that by doing things well, sooner or later a new opportunity will come,” he said.
“With Pumas we fight for the first place. There will be a lot of spotlight… to seek to consecrate myself here first with a title and in the long run the achievements will open doors for me. But first I think of Pumas, an institution that requires that concentration and one has to live up to it.”
Last month, Pumas president Luis Raúl González Pérez confirmed that Liverpool wanted to sign the winger. He has also revealed the operation in the summer didn’t go through due to “external circumstances”.
The player remains confident he has support from Pumas to fulfil his wish of playing in Europe.
“I have a dream which is to go to Europe. That has always been my dream, and I know that Pumas is going to help me fulfill it,” Huerta explained.
The attacker has received assistance from Mexico assistant manager Rafael Márquez to further improve his game.
“After the match against Canada, Rafa approached me and told me that this was the intensity required by a player in Europe and that if I wanted to fulfil my dream it was from there on up and that I couldn’t lower it,” he added.
“He has been the only one that has advised me so far, but I’m open to learn from them and as always, I get the best out of every coach.”
