Ajax’s Jordan Henderson hasn’t yet made a decision on his future amid claims of interest from Sunderland.

Soccer News point out the England international has been linked with a move back to his country in the past few weeks. His ‘old love’ Sunderland are the only club mentioned and they’ve been credited with an interest in the 34-year-old.

Henderson is a product of the Black Cats’ youth system. After spending a decade with their academy, he was promoted to Sunderland’s first team in 2008.

The midfielder made 79 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland and left them for Liverpool in 2011. He spent more than a decade at Anfield and made a switch to Al-Ettifaq in July 2023.

Henderson returned to Europe when Ajax signed him at the start of this year and handed him a contract until 2026. He had a chat with Ajax Life, relayed by Soccer News, where he responded to rumours about leaving the Eredivisie side.

“When my contract here expires, I’ll be 36 years old. Then I see how I’m physically doing and what Ajax wants. I might end my career here. It just might be possible,” he said.

For now, this probably should rule out a move back to the Championship side in the next window. In Amsterdam, the former Reds star misses his family, who are in England.

“I live just outside the centre and am not in the city often. Sometimes I eat some. Our children are 4, 9 and 11 years old. They go to school there. We don’t see each other much, hopefully we will solve that soon,” Henderson explained.
