Portsmouth vs Middlesbrough suspended as players leave field due to medical emergency

A Championship clash has been delayed due to a medical emergency in the stands.

The fixture between Portsmouth and Middlesbrough was due to kick off at 3pm at Fratton Park.

However an emergency involving a Pompey supporter meant that attention quickly turned to their wellbeing.

The players had made their way onto the pitch for the league fixture and were set to get the game underway, however those plans were quickly shelved.

Instead kick-off was delayed while the fan was tended to with the players led off the pitch and back to the dressing rooms.

Portsmouth took to social media and wrote: “There's been a delay to kick-off at Fratton Park due to a medical emergency in the crowd.”

Meanwhile Middlesbrough posted: “The start to today’s game has been delayed due to an apparent medical incident in the home section of the crowd.

“We will update in due course.”
