Newcastle United have put themselves in the driving seat to reach the Carabao Cup final after running out 2-0 winners at Arsenal in their semi-final first leg.
The Magpies opened the scoring through Alexander Isak, who lifted a composed finish past David Raya in the 37th minute of the game.
Anthony Gordon then doubled Newcastle’s lead early on in the second half, converting on the rebound after Raya parried Isak’s effort into his path.
Meanwhile, Arsenal spurned a multitude of good opportunities, with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz fluffing their lines.
And while the Magpies were clinical in attack, their defence was superb once again as they secured a fifth clean sheet from seven games in all competitions.
Lewis Hall was particularly impressive on the night, leading to fans of various Premier League clubs singing his praises.

A Liverpool fan wrote on X: “Strong case for Lewis Hall being the best left-back in the Premier League as of right now.”
Meanwhile, a Manchester United supporter said: “Lewis Hall is so like Luke Shaw and that is the best compliment I can give the fella.”
Chelsea fans also had their say, with one writing: “Lewis Hall would be Chelsea's best left-back had they kept him.”
Another said: “Lewis Hall might be the best LB in the world, what a player he is.”
Even Arsenal fans, who saw their side defeated by Newcastle, had to admit how good Hall was.
One said: “Hall has been their best player today. What a performance”. Another added: “He has been like that for the past four matches now. Brilliant LB.”
How the media rated Hall display v Arsenal
The Shields Gazette echoed the fans’ sentiments as they gave Hall a 9 out of 10 rating.
“Did enough to put off Kai Havertz from poking the ball in from close range as Martin Dubravka gathered,” they began.
“Looks so assured bringing the ball out under pressure. The best left-back in the country at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Chronicle Live gave Hall a rating of 8 out of 10 and wrote: “A performance above his fledgling years. Chelsea must be kicking themselves.”
Finally, the Northern Echo went with a 7 out of 10 for Hall’s efforts on the night.
“Had to curtail his attacking instincts somewhat, especially in the second half, but proved he can defend when under pressure,” they wrote.
