Raheem Sterling Arsenal exit: 'Huge Chelsea return update'
Raheem Sterling’s underwhelming loan at Arsenal is not expected to be cut short in January, according to the Standard.
According to the outlet’s website on 16 December, the Gunners will have Sterling for the whole season as the winger “has no plans” depart early and head back to Chelsea.
The report also reveals that the 30-year-old remains “part of [Mikel] Arteta's plans and is determined to force his way into the team”.
This is despite only making 10 appearances, with two of his four starts coming in the Carabao Cup.
Arteta’s side face Crystal Palace on Wednesday 18 December, so the Englishman has another chance to impress his boss then.
Arsenal need to find a way to make Raheem Sterling work
Football Insider opinion
Arteta's side currently sit six points adrift of leaders Liverpool after another result where they failed to capitalise on their opponents.
The Spaniard faced heavy criticism for his team’s performance and substitute decisions, which seemed to shock pundits when he took off Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice.
The 0-0 result against Everton means the team has failed to score a goal from open play in their last three Premier League games.
Sterling isn't the only attacker to have disappointed supporters. His former Man City teammate Gabriel Jesus has also come under fire.
The Brazilian hasn't scored in the league since January, with some fans suggesting his career at North London could be over.
Supporters are also frustrated with their head coach, as the team has seemingly regressed this season.
They have won only half of their games this season, and with Man City almost guaranteed not to win it, fans will be wondering where Arteta went wrong after finishing runners-up twice.
The former Arsenal captain will mark his fifth year in charge this week. However, with only an FA Cup to show for it, the long wait for a title in North London is set to continue unless things change.
In other news, a Man United star has been touted to sign for Arsenal to rejuvenate his career.
