Rangers may look to rip up their current transfer plan under the 49ers as they look to bring their own plans to the club, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition ofFootball Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that the Gers are currently focused on unearthing a hidden gem that they can potentially sell on for a big profit if they become a success.
That's due to the financial constraints that the Scottish giants are dealing with at the moment, with the club not being flush enough to go out and make any big-name signings who are guaranteed to improve the squad.
Gaoussou Diarra is someone who the club have identified as a potential transfer target for this summer, but he is a player who falls into Rangers' current transfer strategy as he is a "bit of an unknown" in the grand scheme of things.
The winger is playing his trade in the Turkish second league at the moment, and because he's not at the top level there are question marks over where his true level is.
However, Rangers scouts have identified him as someone with potential moving forward as they believe he could grow into a top player.
Rangers could have competition to sign Gaoussou Diarra
Whether Rangers actively pursues Diarra when the summer transfer window opens will remain to be seen, however he is being seen as a risky signing for the club to make due to the league he plays in.
The Gers will face competition all of the big clubs in Turkey as Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and Besiktas are all said to be looking at him as an option.
Diarra is aiming to make the step up to the next level in his career and a move to Rangers would tick that box, but the Gers will have to lure him away from Turkey to the Scottish Premiership.
The 49ers want to blow Celtic away
Rangers' 49ers Enterprises takeover has been moving forward in recent weeks, with the US group hoping to gain a majority stake as they want to buy at least 51% of the shares.
They are hoping to shrink the gap between them and Celtic moving forward, with the Gers currently way off the pace in the Scottish Premiership.
Team | Games Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Goal Difference | Points |
1. Celtic | 29 | 24 | 3 | 2 | +70 | 75 |
2. Rangers | 29 | 18 | 5 | 6 | +33 | 59 |
Former Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness revealed to Football Insider that there will be "investment in recruitment" from the potential new owners, with the club aiming to blow away their Old Firm rivals.
