Rangers will be in pole position to sign Vaclav Cerny permanently if and when their takeover by 49ers Enterprises is completed, sources have told Football Insider.

Cerny’s form for the Light Blues has been head and shoulders above the rest this season, with the Wolfsburg loanee scoring 17 goals and adding seven assists in 40 starts for Barry Ferguson’s Rangers.

The 49ers’ impending takeover is set to be transformative for Rangers’ fortunes, and with Cerny having become a fan favourite at Ibrox, their ownership will increase their chances of signing him permanently.

However, sources have told Football Insider that Rangers’ option to buy Cerny for £5.5million – included as part of his loan from Wolfsburg – expires at the end of May, and may pass without a deal being struck.

A plethora of clubs across Europe will therefore be readying themselves to launch bids for Cerny, giving Wolfsburg the chance to ‘auction’ the Czech international if Rangers can’t take up their option in time.

However, with 49ers Enterprises set to be in the building by June, Rangers’ outgoing boardroom will be urged to take up the option to buy Cerny, with £5.5m being an absolute steal based on his form this term.

Rangers receive huge financial boost in Cerny pursuit

Having been limited to spending roughly £14m last summer amid a sizeable squad overhaul, Football Insider revealed this month that Rangers could have £25m to spend this time around under the 49ers.

Spending £5.5m of this to make Cerny’s stay at Ibrox permanent is a no-brainer for both the incoming and outgoing Gers hierarchies, with the 27-year-old one of the first names on Ferguson’s team sheet.

The 49ers’ projected arrival date is expected to leave them at a disadvantage when it comes to Rangers’ pursuit of in-demand Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller, but Cerny’s future is instead in their hands.

Rangers ready for transformational summer at Ibrox

Adding Cerny to Rangers’ squad permanently should be right at the top of the agenda for 49ers Enterprises, even before Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh take their seats in the Ibrox boardroom.

A decision over Ferguson’s future will arguably be the more pressing priority, with former Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness telling Football Insider that Steven Gerrard would be an ideal candidate to return to Ibrox.

Rangers simply didn’t have the finances to complete an early deal for Cerny in the winter window, but as a new era begins in Govan with new ownership, management, and players all arriving, the Bears faithful will be hoping Cerny is one figure who stays put.
