Rasmus Hojlund has faced his fair share of critics this season and has responded to a new controversy following his Cristiano Ronaldo-style celebration in Denmark’s win over Portugal.

Hojlund has struggled to find the back of the net for Man United this season, with his 20-game drought only recently coming to an end after he netted against Leicester City just before the international break.

His performances have left some fans frustrated, with some Man United fans calling for Hojlund to be sold.

These calls may soon be answered, as Mick Brown, former United chief scout, exclusively told Football Insider that Hojlund has no future at Man United after failing to adapt to Ruben Amorim's system.

Despite this, Hojlund has found his form of late, not only breaking his goal drought at club level but also scoring for Denmark in their 1-0 win over Portugal on 20 March.

However, it wasn't just his goal that had people talking after the match. The striker's celebration became the focal point of much discussion, amid claims he was mocking Ronaldo.

This led the striker to address it in a social media post, where he provided clarity on the incident.

After scoring, Hojlund headed to the corner to perform the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Siu’ celebration, mocking the United legend who was watching from the losing side.

He later took to social media to clarify the moment, saying: “The 7-year-old fan in me might've gotten the overhand after I scored.”

Despite his recent goals, it's fair to say it's been a disappointing season for the Denmark international, who has netted just three Premier League goals.

His form has left Man United fans calling for Amorim to be sacked due to his repeated decision to start Hojlund in the league despite his struggles. However, if he can continue his recent form, the trust Amorim has shown in him could finally be justified.

Man United set sights on Viktor Gyokeres as summer striker target

It seems the Red Devils will be targeting a forward in the summer transfer window to address their attacking woes this season.

Football Insider revealed that Viktor Gyokeres is currently Amorim’s top target, with the hope of reuniting the former Sporting CP coach with his former talisman.

As for Hojlund, those plans could easily change if he can maintain his form until the end of the season. A new striker will come at a significant cost, but if Hojlund can’t sustain his improvement, signing a forward may be a necessity for United to address their long-term attacking needs.
