Chelsea captain Reece James has sent a message of support to former teammate Mason Mount after his latest injury setback.
Speaking in his press conference after United’s 4-3 League Cup defeat to Tottenham on Thursday (December 19), Ruben Amorim admitted Mount will be out for "several weeks."
Amorim added: "I don't know the exact date, but it's going to be for long. And that's it, it's part of football, and you continue."
The attacking midfielder has struggled to settle at Old Trafford since his move from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, with recurring injury problems causing him to miss 30 games since joining Man United.
Mount has managed just 33 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist in 1159 minutes of action, with only one full 90-minute performance under his belt.
Chelsea captain Reece James shares ‘disappointment’ for Man United star Mason Mount after setback
James, 25, has had similar issues, recently picking up another hamstring injury, similar to the one he had during Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the USA that forced the right-back to miss their first 11 games.
The Chelsea captain has started just three of his four games, failing to make a single goal contribution in his 241 minutes on the field.
James took to Instagram to send a message of support to his teammate, saying: “Not many people understand what you’re going through but I have lived disappointment, after disappointment, after disappointment.
“It’s really tough and lonely man! Speedy recovery and stay strong brother! I have zero doubts you’ll be back to your best.”
Chelsea will travel to Everton on Sunday (December 22) knowing that a win could see them supplant Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
