Chelsea defender Renato Veiga has seemingly addressed rumours that he’s looking to leave the club with his latest social media post.

According to the BBC, German side Borussia Dortmund have opened talks with Chelsea regarding an initial loan deal for the 21-year-old.

Chelsea are understood to prefer a permanent deal for the Portuguese defender who only joined the club from Basel in the summer of 2024.

Veiga has had plenty of opportunities at Chelsea, starting primarily in cup competitions, but would reportedly prefer to play as a central defender rather than as cover for Marc Cucurella at left-back.

Enzo Maresca’s side have already recalled centre-backs Trevoh Chalobah and Aaron Anselmino to help provide cover for the injured Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

Veiga may not have had many league opportunities, but he has featured heavily in the cups, starting 12 of his 18 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing one assist in his 1166 minutes of action.

The Portugal international took to Instagram to send a cryptic message to the fans, implying that he may be happy to stay and fight for his place despite the rumours.

Chelsea will be hoping to end their five-game Premier League winless streak as they prepare to host relegation-threatened Wolves on Monday (January 20).

Maresca will then have a week to prepare for a trip to current champions Man City, knowing a defeat would be a major dent in their Champions League ambitions, which have already taken a number of hits since over Christmas and into the New Year.
