Tottenham Hotspur are working hard behind the scenes to sign new players.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have been troubled by a ton of injuries this season. That has really cost them, especially in the Premier League, where they are currently 15th in the table.
Spurs fans are hoping that their club will sign a player or two in what’s left of the transfer window, and work is going on to achieve that.
But there is now some good news for Tottenham supporters regarding a transfer that could happen once this season comes to an end.
Angel Gomes wants to join Tottenham instead of Manchester United and West Ham
Lille star Angel Gomes has become a wanted man.
The England international has entered the final six months of his contract, and he is set to leave France on a free transfer this summer.
TBR Football exclusively revealed in December that Tottenham have held talks with Gomes’ representatives over a move to North London.
We also revealed that West Ham are keen to sign Gomes and have made an offer to sign him this summer, while Manchester United are also in the mix for his signature
Now, GiveMeSport have claimed that ‘the Lille star is keen to embark on a fresh challenge at Hotspur Way instead of the London Stadium or Old Trafford’.
The report adds that ‘Tottenham are putting together a proposal for Gomes’ to bring him to the club once his contract at Lille expires.
Gomes, hailed as ‘amazing’ by Antony Elanga on Rising Ballers, is now free to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club, and his preference being Spurs is a big boost for Postecoglou’s side as plenty of other clubs want him too.
TBR first revealed Tottenham’s interest in Gomes all the way back in May last year.
Gomes has been compared to Man City and Barcelona stars
Gomes left Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer of 2020.
The talented England star joined Lille and he has developed into a fantastic midfielder there. He is destined to play for one of the bigger clubs in Europe now, and it’s almost certain that will happen in the summer.
Gomes’ old youth coach at Manchester United, Paul McGuinness, feels the 24-year-old is similar to big-name midfielders – Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong and Manchester City star Rodri.
He told Sky Sports: “A Frenkie de Jong who can receive the ball off the back four and then move away, use disguises and so on. Someone who has those skills to receive the ball with their back to goal to start the play and keep control.
“We’ve seen Rodri do it for Spain and Man City. That’s one profile that we would be trying to promote within our country to try and improve.
“We searched within the FA to try and improve that type of midfield player. That’s the type of player Angel is.”
