Liverpool suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.

The Reds went into the game on Wednesday night having lost just one game all season. They were the absolute favourites to get the win.

However, a Lucas Bergvall goal late in the game won it for Spurs, who now have a big advantage going into the second leg of the semi-final.

Arne Slot was frustrated with a lot of things on Wednesday night. Diogo Jota really angered his boss after one moment in the first half.

Why Arne Slot ‘shouted’ at Diogo Jota during Tottenham vs Liverpool

Liverpool signed Jota for an initial £40 million fee from Wolves in 2020 (Sky Sports).

The Portugal international has been a terrific player for the Reds over the years. He has come up with some hugely important goals and has won many games for the club.

Jota had a good start to the season under Slot as well, but a muscular injury sidelined him for nearly two months.

That has pushed him down the pecking order at Anfield – Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have been preferred to Jota in recent weeks.

However, Slot handed Jota a start against Tottenham on Wednesday night. In one moment in the first half, the attacker’s attempted pass to Kostas Tsimikas was misplaced and went out of play for a goal kick.

The Mirror report that ‘Slot was absolutely incensed, shouting and throwing his arms up in the air in frustration as he paraded his technical area before eventually turning around and venting his anger to his Liverpool coaching staff”.

After seeing the Liverpool boss’ furious reaction, Jota ‘livened up and began to take care of possession’. He was then taken off in the 60th minute.

Diogo Jota’s stats vs Tottenham are disappointing

On his day, Jota is one of the best attackers in the Premier League.

The Portugal international has shown his class on plenty of occasions over the years, and he is highly appreciated by the Liverpool faithful.

However, Jota had a night to forget against Tottenham on Wednesday.

The Wolves old-boy failed to have a single shot at goal against Spurs and completed just two of his four attempted dribbles. He failed to win eight of his 14 ground duels and lost possession 11 times. (Sofascore)

Liverpool take on Accrington Stanley next in the FA Cup. We’re sure Jota will want to bounce back with a better performance in that game.
