Report: Arsenal now want to sign wonderkid who plays like Harry Kane

Arsenal are now keen to sign a top talent who has been compared to Harry Kane.

The Gunners have actually endured some tough news as far as young talents in Hale End go this summer, after Amario Cozier-Duberry departed to join Brighton, and Chido Obi-Martin also decided to leave.

In response to these setbacks, Arsenal now want to sign a precocious prospect…

Arsenal want Mason Melia

A story from the Irish Mirror now claims that Arsenal want to sign Mason Melia.

The 16-year-old is already a starter under Stephen Kenny at St Patrick’s Athletic, and is actually set to lead the line in the Irish side’s UEFA Conference League clash against FC Vaduz on Thursday evening.

Along with Arsenal, the Irish Mirror add that Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Brighton also want to sign Melia.

The teenager has already won two caps for the Republic of Ireland U19 side – after scoring ten goals in 22 outings in the U17 ranks.

Melia has even been described as the new Evan Ferguson – another top Irish striker who is already taking the Premier League by storm with Brighton.

The aforementioned Kenny thinks very highly of his young frontman, telling the Irish Mirror: “Mason played up front for us on Sunday (in the FAI Cup against Derry City) and he will most likely lead the line again.

“He’s played very well overall. He has a lot of attributes and I think he is getting better.

"I think his attitude is very good. He is just very game, always closing people down rapidly, always working hard. He is a threat on the last line, he’s brave.”

Gunners could sign the new Harry Kane

As well as Ferguson, Melia has been likened to Kane.

It was Football Talent Scout who claimed that the Arsenal target plays like the Bayern Munich No.9 and England international, adding that he is a very strong finisher who possesses excellent movement, while his hold up play and heading ability also stands out.

Arsenal famously released Kane before he went on to become Tottenham and England’s all-time record goalscorer, so the Gunners could potentially make up for that by signing Melia, who many believe is capable of emulating the 30-year-old.
