As we edge closer to the end of the January transfer window, Arsenal are seemingly upping their efforts to improve the options available to Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal are predominantly thought to be looking for a striker, but that doesn't mean that the Gunners would pass up an opportunity to improve their squad elsewhere too.

It's still possible that one or two important members of Arteta's squad could leave before February 3rd, those who are beginning to play smaller roles for Arsenal.

Jorginho is one of those, the 33-year-old has often been linked with a move to Brazil this month given that his contract expires in the summer.

Jorginho could leave Arsenal before the window ends, perhaps paving the way for Martin Zubimendi move to the Emirates Stadium in six-months time.

Arsenal interested in signing Juventus’ Douglas Luiz if Jorginho leaves

That being said, Brazilian outfit RTI Esporte are reporting otherwise, they believe that Arsenal could sell Jorginho to Flamengo this month in order to explore a deal for Juventus' Douglas Luiz.

Luiz is a player Premier League fans know well from his time with Aston Villa, who decided to sell the midfielder in the summer to ease their PSR concerns.

The Brazilian departed in a £42m deal, and has had a fairly torrid time at Juventus since.

Luiz is having a 'disaster' season according to reports in Italy, which is a surprise given the levels he showed in England.

Arteta is thought to have admired Luiz's talent long-term, a player the Gunners have often looked to sign over the years.

And now according to the report mentioned, Arsenal could reignite their interest in Luiz this month were they able to offload Jorginho.

The north Londoners are said to value the Italian at around £8m, which would be a reasonable fee to recoup given his contract expires in the summer.

Mikel Arteta should be focused on a new striker first and foremost

Of course, if reports are to be believed, then some Arsenal fans may be frustrated that the club's focus is not entirely on signing a new forward right now.

Arsenal still like Benjamin Sesko at RB Leipzig, but it remains to be seen if a deal is possible this month.

In addition, were Luiz and Zubimendi to effectively replace Jorginho and Thomas Partey over the next six-months, Arsenal would have a selection headache in the middle.

Arteta would be thrilled to have such good options, but neither of those potentially incoming names would likely be happy with watching on from the bench.

A difficult rebuild for Arsenal, but one that should be exciting for fans in N5, even if the club's situation is fairly difficult right now.
