Aston Villa could soon secure themselves a top free transfer.

The Villans were incredibly busy during the summer window, spending roughly £150m to sign eight new players as Unai Emery gears up for UEFA Champions League football this season.

There were – clearly – many productive negotiations overseen by Monchi, Director of Football at Villa Park, although the Spaniard did fail to secure one target.

Now – however – Aston Villa have a chance to sign him for free in 2025…

Aston Villa could sign Jonathan David for free

A story from FC Inter News now states that Aston Villa attempted to sign Jonathan David during the summer transfer window.

The Canada international was also the subject of interest from Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli – while it is said that he rejected a move to Saudi Arabia too.

However, the saga involving David and Aston Villa is not over.

FC Inter News state that the Villans remain firmly in the race to sign the Lille No.9 in 2025, and he is considering all options as his contract expires at the end of the season.

David – who has been called “one of the best strikers in the world” – even seems to have a greater chance of moving to the Midlands over Turin, as the Italian news outlet add that Juventus are committed to keeping Dusan Vlahovic as the main man.

Would be impressive business from Monchi

If Aston Villa manage to sign the man from Brooklyn on a free transfer, it could prove to be a special piece of business.

David – who Chelsea admire too – impressively scored 26 goals and provided nine assists in 47 appearances across all competitions last season, having also bagged 26 goals in 40 games during the 2022/23 campaign.

Furthermore, the Lille talisman boasts a superb record for Canada, netting 29 goals in 55 appearances.

In truth, it is a mystery as to why nobody has snapped David up in recent transfer windows, given his unerring consistency in front of goal.

Hopefully, Aston Villa are the ones to secure the 24-year-old’s signature on a free transfer in 2025.
