Aston Villa were one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window, with the Villians going about the business in an unusual manner.

PSR restrictions meant Unai Emery’s side had to come up with some clever tactics in the transfer window to both improve the squad whilst also offload players who can help Villa meet the guidelines needed to avoid a points deduction.

As a result, Douglas Luiz was sold to Juventus on the same day Villa signed Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior from the Italian giants, with the Villa Park side also signing Ian Maatsen from Chelsea whilst allowing Omari Kellyman to leave for the Blues.

And a similar deal could now go down in January led by an initiative from Inter Milan.

Inter eyeing swap deal with Villa involving Jacob Ramsey and Denzel Dumfries

According to Inter Live, the reigning Serie A titles could tempt Villa into making a swap deal involving England youth international Jacob Ramsey and Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries, who Emery is believed to be a fan of.

Lauded by Ian Wright as ‘special’, Ramsey was on the scoresheet for Villa this week in their UEFA Champions League return, with the 23-year-old midfielder finally back to full fitness after suffering from injury problems.

Yet transfer interest from Inter could become a problem for Villa, with Simone Inzaghi ‘crazy’ about signing Ramsey, with Dumfries being used as potential bait to sign the England youth international.

Noted as an ‘excellent’ defender, Dumfries has been linked with a move to Villa for some time, and if Inter were to make a proposal for Ramsey involving the defender, Emery could be tempted to take the deal.

Dumfries isn’t worth it for Villa if Ramsey has to leave

Dumfries is clearly a player Villa are trying to sign having been so strongly linked with the Dutch international in the summer, with the 28-year-old ideal to how Emery wants to play at Villa Park.

Yet if signing the defender means offloading a homegrown talent in Ramsey, then a deal to sign Dumfries simply isn’t worth it for Villa, who should not be considering selling one of their own for a player who will only give Emery a few years of good football.

Indeed, Ramsey has been exceptional for Villa since breaking out under Steven Gerrard, and fans will be keen to keep hold of the midfielder for as long as possible, even if it means missing out on a player like Dumfries.
