After sending Trevoh Chalobah out on loan to Crystal Palace in the summer, Chelsea have activated the recall clause in his contract.

TBR Football exclusively confirmed Crystal Palace are eyeing a replacement for Chalobah, who is set to make a return to Stamford Bridge.

At Chelsea last season, the 25-year-old started a mere 10 games in the Premier League.

But at Crystal Palace, the Freetown-born centre-back has been far more involved to say the least.

Starting 14 games in all competitions, Trevoh Chalobah has been fancied as a key part of his backline by Oliver Glasner.

When Chalobah, who Thomas Tuchel lauded first made his way to Selhurst Park, he would have expected that his time at Chelsea had virtually come to an end.

Chelsea will sell Trevoh Chalobah at the end of the season

The Blues have a plethora of centre-backs at their disposal such as Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badashile, Renato Veiga and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Enzo Maresca is also known to stick to his guns, as exemplified by how less he has played the likes of Disasi and Veiga this season.

However, journalist Matt Law has made a revelation in The Telegraph that Chelsea have already decided that at the end of the season, they will part ways with Chalobah, who Newcastle were interested in.

But both the club and the player realise that in the meantime, they can assist each other.

The Freetown-born defender green-lighted his return to Cobham and seems determined to help the club he joined at the tender age of eight.

Chalobah, who Rio Ferdinand once called “unbelievable” has been informed by his boyhood club that he has been called back to challenge for a first-team spot this season.

The report states that a crucial reason behind why the versatile defender has been recalled from his loan stint at Crystal Palace is because of Fofana and Badiashile’s injuries.

Another factor is due to the fact Juventus have made contact to sign Disasi — who is expected to leave Chelsea this month.

What Frank Lampard said about Trevoh Chalobah as he returns from Crystal Palace loan

In May 2023, Frank Lampard sang Chalobah’s praises as both a player and a character.

Lampard said via beIN SPORT: "He's such a selfless lad. He doesn't say 'I want to play in this position'," Lampard said. "Maybe [his best position] will become apparent but I think he's played really well in a back three for the club.”

"A really good period when he first got into the team, he can play well as a centre-back in a back four and at right-back. The bigger picture is the way he's been applying himself since I've come back.”

Lampard emphasised that Chalobah is terrific in training as well.

"He's a delight to train with every day because he comes in with an enthusiasm, low maintenance, and when you talk about the things you want, he tries to do them on the pitch, which is a great thing.”

Lampard concluded: "In my short period here, you look at what are the games and the individual players, I've been very happy. I was looking forward to working with Trev because I didn't get that chance when I was here before.”

Chelsea were considering selling Chalobah but for the time being, he is set to play a key role for Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea are targeting Marc Guehi as well now.
