Chelsea appear to be in pole position to sign a Ligue 1 star who was wanted by Tottenham over the summer transfer window.
The two London rivals could find themselves going head-to-head to get a deal over the line when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Chelsea were typically busy this summer with 11 new signings welcomed to Stamford Bridge, including a last-gasp deadline day deal for Jadon Sancho.
Tottenham also found themselves busy over the summer with Daniel Levy backing Ange Postecoglou with a club-record £65m deal for Dominic Solanke as one of five new summer signings.
But one area where Spurs failed to improve was at full-back with Ryan Sessegnon and Emerson Royal both leaving this summer.
Chelsea lead race to sign Vanderson
Tottenham had been linked with a new right-back signing over the summer and Spurs had set their sights on Vanderson.
Spurs were ready to submit a £25m bid for Vanderson with Postecoglou eyeing a potential upgrade at right-back.
The Monaco right-back has attracted plenty of attention for his impressive performances in Ligue 1, but Tottenham were unable to get a deal over the line in the summer.
CaughtOffside have now shared a new update on Vanderson and revealed that Chelsea lead the race for his signature.
They state that the Blues are showing a “strong interest” in the 23-year-old full-back, who is also admired by Tottenham and Manchester United.
Monaco want around €35-40m (£34m) in order to sell Vanderson either in January or next summer.
Tottenham should return for Vanderson in January
Spurs had a huge interest in Vanderson over the summer but ended up prioritising other targets.
However, depth at right-back has quickly become a top priority after Emerson Royal left. Tottenham do have Djed Spence but Postecoglou made his thoughts clear on the 24-year-old by leaving him out of their Europa League squad.

Pedro Porro is clearly the first-choice right-back at Tottenham, but behind him there is an alarming drop in quality.
If Vanderson is available for around £34m in January then Spurs should consider reigniting their interest in the Brazilian.
