According to a recent report, Everton are set to rival Tottenham for the signature of a highly-rated defender.

The Toffees are set to miss out on Wilfred Ndidi, who is reportedly expected to agree a new deal at Leicester City.

Though, they aren’t wasting any time in moving on to other targets, as a fresh rumour emerges linking them to a player Tottenham want to sign.

Everton interested in signing Federico Gatti

According to Tutto Juve, Everton are interested in signing Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti, who actually used to work as a bricklayer.

The 26-year-old is of interest to Spurs and Newcastle United, so evidently it won’t be an easy deal to complete for The Tofees.

Further, he is expected to cost around £25m, which may be a little too steep for Everton at this stage unless sales are imminent.

The Merseysiders have a long-standing interest in Gatti, who is one of the best goalscoring defenders in Europe as per FBref, and even tried to sign him last summer but Jive rejected their approaches.

Deal likely to be on standby until after Euro 2024

Any forthcoming deal to sign Gatti likely won’t take place until after the European Championships in Germany.

The centre-back is currently away at the tournament with Italy but is yet to feature in any of the opening three games.

Italy face Switzerland in the round of 16 on Saturday evening, where suitors may be able to get a glimpse of Gatti.

Everton’s scouts will likely be attending a number of games at the Euros, as they look to assemble a squad capable of pushing up the Premier League into mid-table.

A telling few weeks lie ahead.
