Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba could become the latest megastar to trade Europe for North America and the riches of Major League Soccer.

According to Calciomercato, MLS franchise Los Angeles FC have joined Olympique Marseille in the race for the out-of-favour Juventus playmaker, whose club career has never reached the promised heights.

Pogba’s playing career was in jeopardy until not long ago, as the court found him guilty of breaching doping rules, suspending him from football fields for four years in February.

However, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced his sentence, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is on the verge of returning to action at the start of 2025.

Despite his flamboyant nature and off-field shenanigans, the Frenchman has often been a popular figure in football transfer sagas, alternating between Man Utd and Juventus in the past decade.

The 31-year-old’s second stint at Old Trafford was underwhelming, marked by inconsistent performances, recurring injuries, and struggles to live up to the high expectations set by his then-record transfer fee, ultimately leaving many fans disappointed with his impact on the team.

Pogba left the Premier League giants in 2022, widely considered a flop, and returned to Juventus on a free transfer, hoping to revive his faltering career in the familiar surroundings of Turin.

Little did he know a series of physical setbacks would restrict him to only 213 minutes across 12 appearances in all competitions in the last two seasons.

When a Draconian punishment at the start of the year ruled him out of action for four years, many had thought Pogba’s professional football career was dead in the water.

But CAS handed the disgraced midfielder a lifeline earlier this month.

Regardless, Juventus boss Thiago Motta has already deemed Pogba surplus to requirements, with the club working on terminating his contract before the January transfer window.

It would give the ex-Man Utd star the freedom to choose his next destination on his own terms.

LAFC could be his next landing spot as the MLS franchise eye up another high-profile transfer after linking up with Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale in the past.

A move to California would see Pogba reunite with his compatriot Olivier Giroud, who swapped AC Milan for Los Angeles in the summer.
