Liverpool have enjoyed a solid start to the season, winning all but one of their games so far in all competitions.

This comes in wake of a mixed transfer window for the Reds, in which they brought just one new signing to Anfield by the deadline.

Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa and, while they also secured the signature of Giorgi Mamardashvili, he won’t arrive at Anfield until next year.

The Reds also failed to get a new midfield signing over the line as Martin Zubimendi opted to stay at Real Sociedad despite Liverpool’s interest.

Now, TEAMtalk have reported that Arne Slot has set his sights on an alternative to Zubimendi, and that the Reds fancy their chances of striking a deal next year.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot a ‘huge fan’ of Quinten Timber

The player in question is Quinten Timber, who worked under Slot at Feyenoord and continues to shine for the Eredivisie club.

TEAMtalk say the Liverpool boss is a huge fan of Timber, whose ability to play in a variety of roles across midfield makes him an attractive option for Slot.

The Reds manager was actually keen on the Feyenoord ace in the summer, but tentative discussions did not prove fruitful as the Dutch club stood firm.

Now, Liverpool believe Feyenoord’s stance will soften due to the fact Timber’s contract expires in the summer of 2027, added the report.

Who is Liverpool target Quinten Timber?

Quinten Timber is a midfielder who plies his trade for Feyenoord and represents the Netherlands at international level.

The 23-year-old started out at Feyenoord’s academy but soon moved to Ajax and rose through the ranks at the Amsterdam club.

Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien, then joined FC Utrecht in 2021 before being re-signed by Feyenoord a year later.

He has made 81 competitive appearances for the Rotterdam club, registering 13 goals and 13 assists in the process.

Breaking the Lines wrote in July 2024: “What Quinten offers as a progressive footballer with the ball is brilliant in many of his decisions and provides effectiveness plus danger-creation to his team, in addition to his best facet, which is how easy it is for him to evade the press.

“With improvement, very soon, just like his brother, he will be able to upgrade his game and find himself in a better team and league.”

Timber is also a very fast player. Sometimes even quicker than Manchester City and England full-back Kyle Walker, in fact.

With Walker's top speed coming in at 32.8km/h, Timber surpassed that level last year by clocking a sprint just higher at 33km/h.
