Liverpool have been strong on not buying players for the sake of it, and there now appears to be someone new catching their eye.

Arne Slot welcomed just two players to the club in the summer but only one of them will be a part of Liverpool‘s plans this season.

Giorgi Mamardashvili joined from Valencia but is to remain on loan in Spain for the remainder of the current campaign.

Meanwhile, Federico Chiesa made the move from Juventus for around £10 million.

As Liverpool fans will know, Martin Zubimendi was another name on Slot’s list but he rejected the chance to move to Anfield at the last minute after a change of heart.

Now, it appears as if the Merseyside club already have their eye on a potential new signing for 2025…

Liverpool join the race to sign a club’s prized player

Liverpool already have a number of youngsters in the first-team squad this season, including Tyler Morton, Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley.

And, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have one eye on the future with another teenager talent of interest.

According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool are interesting in signing Sunderland’s Chris Rigg.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are all scouting the youngster.

Many within the game claim that Rigg, who has been labelled as a ‘sensation’ (Sunderland Echo), has bigger potential than Adam Wharton.

Who is Chris Rigg?

The youngster became Sunderland's youngest-ever goalscorer when he scored in an EFL Cup clash last August. He is under contract at the Stadium of Light until 2027.

Rigg naturally operates as a central midfielder, a position that Liverpool tried to strengthen in the summer. The youngster can also go slightly deeper or slightly further up the pitch.

He grabbed three goals and an assist in all competitions last season for Sunderland.

At 17 years of age, he still has his whole career ahead of him, so there’s no rush to throw him into the thick of things at Liverpool if he does join, but to be playing regularly in the Championship at his age and showing the quality that he does is nothing short of sensational.
