Report: Man City could now make shock move to sign PL striker who's scored just one goal in 2024

Manchester City are in trouble and need some help in the January transfer window.
The defending Premier League champions have won just one of their last 11 fixtures in all competitions. Pep Guardiola has never faced anything like this in his managerial career before.
City need a spark to change their fortunes this season, and many feel they will dive into the market for one or two new signings in the winter window.
Now, Manchester City have been linked with a surprise move to sign a striker from another Premier League club.
Manchester City could target Brighton’s Evan Ferguson in January
Manchester City’s biggest priority at the moment is a new midfielder.
Rodri suffered a serious injury in the game against Arsenal earlier in the season, and he isn’t expected to be back anytime soon. There is even a chance that he could miss the remainder of the campaign.
City have looked nothing like their usual selves without the Ballon d’Or winner. They are likely to solve that issue with a new midfield signing once the winter window opens.
Once that is done, GiveMeSport claim that Guardiola’s side could target Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.
The report claims that a move was ‘initially being downplayed and regarded as too risky due to his lack of action’, but City could change their stance now.
Following Julian Alvarez’s departure in the summer, City went into the campaign with just Erling Haaland up top. They have no other out-and-out striker.
Manchester City have been linked with Ferguson in the past, but no move materialised then.
Why Man City signing Evan Ferguson would be a risky move
Ferguson was viewed as one of the best attacking talents in the Premier League when he first burst onto the scene at Brighton.
In 2023, the Republic of Ireland international matched Wayne Rooney’s record of most goals scored by a teenager in a calendar year – 18.
Everyone expected Ferguson to go up a level, but in the whole of 2024, the striker has scored one goal. That came against Wolves in October.
Manchester City need someone who will score goals when Haaland fails to convert his chances. Signing and then relying on a striker who has scored one goal all year would be a very risky thing to do.
However, if there’s one manager who can get Ferguson back to his best again, it’s probably Guardiola.
