Newcastle United are now considering a renewed bid for a 21-year-old who made 28 appearances in the Premier League last season.

Having recently solved their PSR issues, the rest of July and August will be dedicated to strengthening Eddie Howe's squad.

Paul Mitchell's appointment could be very important in that regard – famed for his excellent recruitment record.

And at the beginning of the summer it was considered that Newcastle wanted to add a goalkeeper, a centre-back, a right-winger and a forward.

In that regard, Newcastle have already signed Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer, even if they were disappointed to miss out on Tosin Adarbioyo.

And although no significant attacking additions have been made, Howe has welcomed two new goalkeepers to the club – Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy.

Right now it's believed that Nick Pope will be number one, Vlachodimos two, and Ruddy a home-grown third choice.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, that may not necessarily be the case.

Newcastle consider renewed bid to meet James Trafford’s £30m asking price

Sharing the news on his Patreon, Nixon is now reporting that Newcastle will make a renewed bid for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Newcastle previously had a £16m bid rejected for Trafford, and despite signing two goalkeepers, the club are still keen on recruiting the 21-year-old.

Howe's staff still see ‘outstanding‘ Trafford as a future number one for the club, someone who can eventually replace Pope.

And because of that reason, Newcastle will reportedly try to go closer to Burnley's £30m valuation.

New sporting director Mitchell has reportedly been handed £100m to spend over this month and next.

And therefore if reports of Newcastle's fresh interest are to be believed, perhaps a move for another keeper wouldn't be too advisable.

A flagship right-wing signing still looks like the go-to move for Howe and this team this summer.

And having missed out on Michael Olise to Bayern Munich – a deal that still hasn't been finalised, Newcastle are said to be interested in Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga.

The 22-year-old will likely cost much more than Trafford, but could be better use of funds this summer.
