Newcastle United are already plotting their January business.

With Callum Wilson linked to Fulham, it seems Newcastle will be in the market for a striker during the winter transfer window.

Alexander Isak missed the game against Manchester City through injury, so Eddie Howe was forced to play Anthony Gordon up front.

Clearly, more depth is needed in that area of the pitch and with that said, Newcastle have been linked to a highly-rated number nine on the continent.

Newcastle lead Juventus in race to sign Jonathan David

According to Tutto Juve, Newcastle United are interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David in January.

David has netted seven times in 11 outings for the French side so far this season which follows a 26-goal campaign the previous year.

That’s alerted The Magpies but they aren’t the only interested party as Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on his situation.

The Canada international is out of contract next summer, so he’s set to become available for a discounted fee in January.

At this stage, Newcastle are thought to be leading the race for his signature as they’re willing to pay the most.

Jonathan David profile

David’s underlying FBref statistics make for very impressive reading.

The 24-year-old, who’s been labelled ‘one of the best strikers in the world’ per Tony Marinaro, ranks in the top seven per cent for non-penalty goals per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe.

Further, David sits in the top two per cent for pass completion, which evinces his terrific all-around game.

So if Newcastle were to land his signature, it’d be a real coup.
