Report: Newcastle now keen on signing 'fantastic' £40m midfielder after he exited the Euros early

Newcastle United are looking to press on with improving their squad and could now turn to a Manchester United ace in their pursuit of new players.

The Magpies are sticking with Eddie Howe this summer and are expected to bring in a number of new signings before the season gets underway.

Newcastle managed to get their PSR house in order by selling Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest for big money and they are now expected to be busy in the market.

For Eddie Howe, keeping the likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes is a key task this summer.

But as well as keeping those players, he also wants to add genuine quality to the ranks and according to reports, he could be set to raid Old Trafford.

Newcastle among teams keen on signing Scott McTominay

According to a report from Manchester World, United midfielder McTominay is a man in-demand.

The report claims that Newcastle are among a quartet of clubs keen on signing the midfielder, who recently exited the Euros after a dismal Scotland showing.

It’s suggested that Fulham lead the race for McTominay but Newcastle, West Ham and Southampton are all keen on him.

The 27-year-old has been a bit-part player under Erik ten Hag and has had interest from a number of Premier League clubs in the past.

United are believed to value the ‘fantastic‘ midfielder at around the £40m mark, so any deal will be hard to do for those interested parties.

For McTominay, the key question for him will come around what sort of role he’s going to get next season under Ten Hag.

Should that be a similar role to that he played last season, then there’s every chance he looks to move on and become a star elsewhere.

At 27, McTominay is entering his prime years now and a move to a club like Newcastle could well be the making of him as a Premier League star.
