Report: Pep Guardiola set to be given four new Manchester City players in the January transfer window, one is a priority

Manchester City are expected to offer Pep Guardiola their full support in January with several new signings expected to happen.
The Premier League champions find themselves nine points adrift from the league leaders Liverpool and are currently sitting in fifth place. Defeat to Manchester United now means they have just one win in their last 11 matches and have lost five of their last seven in the league.
Pep Guradiola’s team needs a clear refresh and City are keen to back him fully in January as they look to improve across the second half of the season.
Manchester City are targeting four positions in January
Manchester City are ready to sign as many as four players in January as they show Pep Guardiola their full support, according to the Daily Mail. City are committed to Guardiola who signed a new contract at the Etihad only last month.
They look set to target a midfielder, striker and two defenders. Midfield appears to be the priority having lost Rodri to injury and their options becoming quite limited.
TBR Football understands that City have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race for Martin Zubimendi with the midfielder valued at around £51 million. The 25-year-old came on to replace Rodri in the Euro 2024 Final for Spain, so doing the same for City feels rather fitting.
Elsewhere, Guardiola’s team failed to ever replace Julian Alvarez and have ended up being too over-reliant on Erling Haaland. The striker’s form has blown hot and cold this term and it’s clear a backup option is needed.
In defence, they want to bring in another central defender and are also targeting a right-back with Kyle Walker’s performances this season being slammed. Sources have now informed TBR Football that Manchester City have done background checks on Jeremie Frimpong.
What are Manchester City fixtures looking like?
Next up for Man City is a tough away trip to Villa Park, although they face an Aston Villa team who are facing struggles of their own. Unai Emery’s team have won just two of their last eight Premier League matches, so this game will be crucial for both sides.
In terms of their title rivals, Chelsea's next task is an away trip to Everton, Arsenal travel across London to face Crystal Palace and Liverpool are also in the capital to face Tottenham.
