Txiki Begiristain will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.

The Spaniard has worked as Director of Football at the Etihad Stadium ever since October 2012 – overseeing a golden period in Manchester City’s history, which has involved seven Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League and many other pieces of silverware.

Furthermore, the 60-year-old has helped to negotiate some crucial deals, such as the signings of Erling Haaland, Rodri and Ruben Dias, while also playing a part in luring Pep Guardiola to Manchester.

Hugo Viana will be replacing Txiki Begiristain – but Manchester City still hold some expectations of the Spaniard before he leaves.

Manchester City expect Txiki Begiristain to be involved in significant deals

A story from the Manchester Evening News now shares what Begiristain is expected to deal with before handing over the reins to Viana.

It is said that Manchester City expect the man from Olaberria to handle a number of major tasks before he officially departs – even if Viana is already in the building – including the challenge of finding a new manager if Guardiola were to depart.

Furthermore, the Citizens also expect Begiristain to head the situation involving Kevin De Bruyne, who sees his contract expire in July.

The Manchester Evening News stress that the Spaniard will not look to deflect and pin these hugely significant tasks on Viana while he drives off into the sunset, instead wanting to ensure all goes smoothly before he passes on the torch.

Great experience for Hugo Viana at Manchester City

The Portuguese negotiator is less experienced than Begiristain, and despite some impressive work at Sporting CP – including the £17m signing of Viktor Gyokeres, who Arsenal want – he has a lot to prove at a juggernaut such as Manchester City.

Therefore, it will be great for Viana, who rejected Newcastle, to shadow Begiristain during these significant tasks – they don’t come much more important than arranging the futures of legends such as Guardiola and De Bruyne.

Dropping the 41-year-old in at the deep end like this, with Begiristain still helping, could actually be the ideal way for him to begin life at Manchester City.

Hopefully, Viana can emulate the Spaniard at the Etihad Stadium, and contribute to many more years of success.
