Liverpool chiefs are already identifying targets ahead of next year’s summer transfer window.

Behind the scenes, Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are working closely on future business after a pretty quiet summer.

Federico Chiesa joined The Reds whilst Giorgi Mamardashvili agreed a deal which will see him link up with Slot’s men next year.

So evidently, there’s still plenty of room to improve the squad and with that said, Liverpool are targeting a playmaker on the continent.

Liverpool have Xavi Simons on their shortlist

According to Christian Falk, via Voetbal Primeur, Liverpool have placed Xavi Simons on their transfer shortlist.

The Netherlands international is currently on loan at RB Leipzig from his parent club Paris Saint-Germain, though, it’s not expected to become permanent.

That’s set to entice a number of clubs next summer upon his return to Paris, including Manchester City and Manchester United.

It’s thought Liverpool and United could be leading City in the race to sign Simons due to their Dutch connections.

Slot’s outstanding start to life in the Premier League could also inspire the 21-year-old to make the switch to Merseyside.

Xavi Simons profile

Simons, who’s been labelled ‘world class’ per BeSoccer, predominantly operates as an attacking midfielder and according to FBref data, he is of a similar profile to Chelsea’s talisman Cole Palmer.

The 2003-born netted 10 times whilst laying on 15 assists for Leipzig last term and was a standout performer at Euro 2024, scoring a superb goal against England in the semi-final.

If Liverpool were to land his signature, it’d be regarded as a real coup.
